Shrine of Divine Mercy in Vilnius

“All at once, I saw the image in some small chapel and at that moment I saw that chapel became an enormous and beautiful temple…” (Diary, 561)

In the heart of Vilnius Old Town, tucked away among the houses, the small Shrine of Divine Mercy is a sign of God’s hope for all nations and all people. Open day and night, the shrine bears witness to God’s desire to share His graces unceasingly and invites us to draw close to His Mercy. The Shrine is being discovered by an increasing number of pilgrims from all over the world.

Each visitor is greeted by the original painting of the Merciful Jesus (painted by artist E. Kazimirowski), which Saint Sister Faustina was told to paint by the Savior Himself as a sign to the world. Jesus promised many graces to those who would pray in front of this painting with trust.

In the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy, the whole Week of Divine Mercy leads the way towards the most significant solemnity of the Divine Mercy – the Divine Mercy Sunday. The entire week is filled with Masses, testimonies and events. It begins on Easter Sunday and attracts many people. “A great multitude of people were outside and in the sanctuary, and streams of mercy from the most merciful Heart of Jesus were pouring out on all…” (Diary, 1689), just as Faustina had seen in her vision almost a century ago.

Every year on 5th of October, the Shrine of Divine Mercy commemorates Saint Sister Faustina Kowalska with a special solemn celebration. On the 5th day of each month, we invite you to the Shrine’s monthly celebration of St. Faustina, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy is prayed by singing at 3 pm. On that day, the Shrine invites you to give thanks to God for this Apostle of Mercy and to ask for her intercession and receive the blessing with the relic of St. Faustina.

The Feast of the Presentation of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy is celebrated from 13th to 14th September, commemorating the anniversary of the prayerful presentation of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy to Sister Faustina. In the Shrine of Divine Mercy, we pray this chaplet collectively at 3 pm every day.
